Williams F1 Boss James Vowles Set to Race in the Gulf 12 Hours
Williams team principal James Vowles is gearing up for a thrilling return to the racetrack this December, as he prepares to take on the Gulf 12 Hours in a Garage 59-prepared McLaren GT3 Evo. With Williams on the cusp of their best Constructors' Championship finish since 2023, Vowles is bringing his own racing prowess to the endurance race, having previously competed in the Asian Le Mans Series in 2022.
The Gulf 12 Hours, set for December 14, coincides with the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Vowles, who has been honing his skills with test sessions at Jerez and Navarra, will return to the Yas Marina circuit, sharing the Garage 59-prepared McLaren GT3 Evo with Alexander West, Mark Sansom, and Marco Pulcini. This experienced trio will strengthen the team's lineup for the challenging endurance race.
In a post on Instagram, Vowles announced his racing comeback, stating, "After a couple of successful GT3 test days, I'm thrilled to announce my return to competitive racing this December with the @Garage_59 team for the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi. It's a strong lineup, and I'm looking forward to getting back behind the wheel."
However, before he can focus on the race, Vowles must secure Williams' fifth place in the Constructors' Championship. With just two races remaining in the Formula 1 season, the team currently holds a 31-point advantage over sixth-placed Racing Bulls, as they head into the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday. The team's priority is to maintain their position and secure a top-five finish in the championship.
