London Underground Fare Prices 2026: What You Need to Know (2026)

Londoners, brace yourselves! The fare prices for the London Underground, Overground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), and Elizabeth line are set to rise by 5.8% from today, March 1st, 2026. But here's where it gets controversial... While the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has promised to keep Transport for London (TfL) fares as affordable as possible, the reality is that the increase is one percent above the inflation rate. And this is the part most people miss... The price of Travelcards and pay-as-you-go caps will remain frozen until 2027, but the fare increases will still impact Londoners in various ways.

The single pay-as-you-go Tube fares in Zones 1 to 6 will rise by no more than 20p, and Elizabeth line fares from Zone 1 to Heathrow will increase from £13.90 to £15.50. This may not seem like a lot, but for tourists flying out of Heathrow, it could be a significant impact. Londoners traveling to and from Heathrow for work will be protected by the daily cap, but for others, it could mean a few extra pounds in their daily commute.

Sir Sadiq Khan has defended the rise, stating that Londoners continue to benefit from the Mayor's previous fare freezes over the past six years. As of March, fares will be 16% lower than the rate of inflation since 2016, and six percent lower than if they had risen in line with National Rail fares over the same period. But is this enough to justify the increase? The government has made it clear that Tube and Overground fares must go up by the rate of inflation (RPI) plus one percent as part of the £2.2bn capital funding deal.

So, what does this mean for Londoners? Will the increase in fares impact your daily commute? Do you think the government's expectations are fair?
