Makueni County's Bold Move to Combat Youth Unemployment: A Second Cohort of Interns Welcomed
Makueni County has taken a bold step to address the pressing issue of youth unemployment by inducting a second large group of interns this year. Building on the success of the initial onboarding of 49 interns on September 15, 2025, the county government proudly welcomed another 55 young professionals today.
The event was attended by CECM Japheth Mang'oka, Chief Officer for Education & ICT Irene Makau, and the Director of Revenue, along with other facilitators who will guide the new recruits. These 55 interns will be distributed across various county departments, showcasing the Department of ICT, Education, and Internship's dedication to integrating Makueni's youth into the public sector workforce.
The 12-month internship program's primary objective is to equip Makueni's youth with the essential employability skills needed to thrive in the competitive job market. CECM Japheth Mang'oka emphasized the program's significance, stating, 'This initiative goes beyond filling positions; it's an investment in Makueni County's future. We are committed to empowering our youth with hands-on experience and professional discipline, making them competitive in the modern job market, both locally and internationally.'
This practical exposure within the county public service aims to bridge the gap between academic qualifications and real-world professional demands, ultimately fostering a more skilled and dynamic local workforce.
