Michigan Radio Shakeup: Townsquare's Big Changes and New Sports Focus (2025)

The radio waves in Michigan are buzzing with exciting developments! Townsquare Media is making significant changes to several of its stations, and here's the scoop:

A Brand New Sound: Four Townsquare stations are set to simulcast Audacy's popular sports station, '97.1 The Ticket'. But here's the twist: these stations will adopt the 'Ticket' branding, causing a ripple effect across the state's radio landscape.

The Branding Game: Stations 95.3 WBCK Battle Creek, 1360 WKMI Kalamazoo, and 1240 WJIM/106.9 W295BP Lansing will all don the 'Ticket' moniker, joining the ranks of WXYT-FM Detroit. However, in Grand Rapids, Cumulus Media's '1340 The Ticket' already exists, so WFGR will opt for the simpler 'Sports Radio 98.7' branding. And this is where it gets interesting...

Talk Radio Shuffle: In Lansing, the talk programming currently on WJIM will find a new home on WVFN, currently known as '730 The Game'. WVFN will undergo a transformation, rebranding as 'Lansing 730', offering a blend of talk and sports content. But the story doesn't end there...

Host Hijinks: WJIM's morning host, Steve Gruber, will make the switch to WVFN, while the popular show 'Michigan's Big Show' hosted by Michael Patrick Shiels will shift to the afternoon slot. Tim Staudt's 'Staudt on Sports' will move to the 9 am - 12 pm slot, and current WVFN morning host Matt Sheppard will slide into the 12 pm - 3 pm slot. The 6 pm - 9 pm slot remains a mystery for now, but we know that 'The Huge Show' will move to the late-night slot.

Syndication and Sports: Syndicated shows like Dave Ramsey and Red Eye Radio will fill the overnight slots, replacing ESPN Radio. And for sports fans, WVFN will continue to broadcast Michigan State University Sports play-by-play, keeping listeners close to the action.

So, there you have it—a complex web of radio rebranding and programming shifts. But what do you think? Are these changes a welcome refresh, or do they disrupt your listening habits? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's discuss the future of Michigan's airwaves!
