The global oil market is experiencing a delicate balance as prices sink, despite a minor build in crude oil and distillates inventories. The American Petroleum Institute (API) reported a 1.3 million barrel increase in US crude oil inventories for the week ending November 7, a slight deviation from analysts' expectations of 1.7 million barrels. This follows a 6.5 million barrel gain in the previous week, indicating a net gain of 4.9 million barrels for the year, according to Oilprice calculations. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) has seen a 1 million barrel rise to 410.4 million barrels, a strategic move by the government to replenish oil stocks depleted during the Biden Administration. US production surged to 13.651 million barrels per day (bpd) during the week of October 31, marking a new record and an 116,000 bpd increase since the beginning of the year, as per the EIA. However, the market sentiment took a hit as Brent crude prices dropped by $2.53 (-3.88%) to $62.63, following OPEC's MOMR report indicating no oil market deficit next year. WTI prices also fell by $2.66 (-4.36%) to $58.38. Gasoline inventories decreased by 1.4 million barrels, a slight improvement from the previous week's 5.653 million barrel loss, but still 5% below the five-year average for this time of year. Distillate inventories, on the other hand, rose by 944,000 barrels, a significant rebound from the 2.459 million barrel drawdown in the prior week, but still 9% below the five-year average. Cushing inventory, a critical delivery hub for WTI Crude futures, experienced a minor dip of 43,000 barrels after a substantial rise in the previous week. These fluctuations in the oil market highlight the complex interplay between supply, demand, and geopolitical factors, leaving investors and consumers alike navigating a volatile landscape.
